I have heard of this. What they do is send that letter out in the hopes that someone responds. Why? Because they have a claim to the taxes on the loans that were lost. They have no legal right to collect but if you send the letter back then at that point they send their loss to the IRS and collect on the funds lost. It is a scam. Report the company. Dirty lawyer trick. They don't even claim those loses to the IRS untill someone, like you, sends in the form. Then the fallowing year they send the claim to the IRS stating that they forgot to claim it the year before. Think about it, if it really was your lender then they would for sure have your S.S. # No that is a scam. I have heard of this. Unless you live in, say, a mobile home worth less than $ 17,000, the house should have been sold. Even if it wasn't sold, you were STILL liable for the mortgage payments. I’m confused.
